Disney LADY AND THE TRAMP Expressive Animation Drawing of LADY by HAL KING, 1955

This full-figure rough animation drawing of Lady was created by Disney directing animator Hal King in development of a scene in Walt Disney's CinemaScope animated feature. Flashbacks appear in the "Dogs Discuss Baby" sequence as Lady recounts to Jock and Trusty recent puzzling encounters with Jim Dear and Darling. Denied her usual "afternoon romp together" by Darling, Lady playfully picks up the ball of Darling's yarn. Darling's sharp words and light spank send her scurrying into the shadow of a chair exhibiting this hurt expression as the scene dissolves into outdoor daylight.

Directing animator Hal King supervised the animation of Lady in this scene, and this is one of his drawings. Mr. King joined The Walt Disney Studios in the late 1930s. He worked on shorts and drew minor characters in the features until the making of Cinderella (1950) when he began to supervise actors in leading roles. On Lady and the Tramp he was a directing animator and with responsibility for many noteworthy scenes. He remained with Disney throughout his career and retired after the making of Robin Hood (1973).
