Get a Horse is the first Mickey Mouse cartoon since the release of Runaway Brain in 1995 and includes the first appearance of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in a Disney film in 85 years. The film is animated in the styles of early 1930s black-and-white cartoons and modern full-color 3D. Featured are Mickey, Minnie Mouse, Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, and Peg Leg Pete (with a peg leg). The soundtrack features archival recordings of Walt Disney as Mickey Mouse, Marcellite Garner as Minnie, and Billy Bletcher as Peg Leg Pete.

Lauren MacMullan directed; the lead animators were Eric Goldberg and Adam Green; and Russi Taylor and Will Ryan provided additional dialogue of Minnie and Pete, respectively.
