The Art of Disneyland Catalogue of the Inaugural Exhibition of The Disney Gallery, 1987
The Art of Disneyland (1987)
20 pages + covers, 8.5" x 11"
The Disney Gallery at Disneyland opened July 11, 1987 in its original location above Pirates of the Caribbean, and this is the color catalogue of its Inaugural Exhibition which ran from 1987 to 1988. The models, drawings and paintings in this show were a marvel to behold; many were on public display for the first time and revealed the fabulous art that Walt Disney's Imagineers created in the design of the Anaheim theme park and its attractions.
The catalogue is illustrated throughout in full color and black-and-white, there are short biographies of the lead artists whose work was on display, a list of pieces in the show, and included are introductions by John Hench, then Senior Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering, and Elizabeth Smith of The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
There is a good piece on The Disney Gallery in the original location at: https://d23.com/this-day/the-disney-gallery-opens-at-disneyland/.
